Meet Up Info 〰️

About The Meet Up

We’re beyond excited to see everyone again and want to drop some info and friendly reminders for our events to come.

  • This season, we’ll be holding meet-ups every 3 weeks on Thursdays and Tuesdays.

  • As usual, we’ll post flyers on our social media pages prior to meet-ups, with information on dates, times, locations, etc. So keep an eye out so you know where to come find us!

  • While froSkate welcomes all, we will always center BIPOC Femme, Queer, Trans, GNC/ENBY communities first and foremost.

  • All wheels - All levels welcome

  • If you do not resonate with any of these identities or intersectionalities, froSkate still welcomes you :) However, it is imperative that our communities are front and center at meet-ups. This space was created for skaters of traditionally under-represneted identities in skating, so our prioritization is essential.

COVID Guidelines

  • We aim to make our meet-ups as safe of a space as possible, and that includes recognizing that COVID remains an acute concern. We especially want to ensure the safety of Black and Brown high-risk individuals, and those who are disabled.

  • Though we are outdoors, please wear a mask when you are speaking in close proximity and with larger groups.

  • We do not require masks or proof of vaccination status to attend meetups, but PLEASE be diligent in monitoring your health in order to keep others safe. Please do not attend a meetup if you feel sick or have been around someone who is sick.

Meet Up Run Down

  • At 6pm we will have a ~10 minute meeting before we start the fun, going over a few rules and guidelines, etiquette, asking if anyone needs anything else to feel safe, introducing ourselves, etc.

  • At 7:30pm we regroup to say our thank yous and goodbye. Hope you had a great time, reach out if you need anything, hope to see you next time!!

  • During and after the meet-up, please ensure you pick up after yourself and keep the space we are occupying clean.

How to Join

  • You do not have to do anything to attend a meet-up besides show up! As long as you’re in or near our city, or we’re in or near yours, you can always come through. And we can’t wait to meet you!!

What to Bring

  • Besides your board, self, and any other gear you prefer (knee pads, wrist guards, helmets, etc.), please bring a reusable water bottle if you have one. Chicago summers get hot and humid, so while we do provide bottled water, we encourage skaters to bring their own to cut down on waste.

  • We will be providing snacks, but feel free to bring your own, or even pre-packaged items to share if you feel so inclined.

All Love, No Hate

  • Safety is key. Our space is meant to be an oasis for our skaters, so we emphasize all love, no hate, encouragement, kindness, respect, patience, consent, and a shame-free environment. This is not the place for drama or disrespect.

  • Please ensure you use everyone’s preferred names and pronouns. If you are unsure, just ask! It’s much better to be sure than to assume.

  • Practice consent — You must receive a clear YES from that person before proceeding.

    • Ask before you touch someone especially during spotting

    • Ask for consent before you give advice

  • Akin to this, we also provide standard first aid kits for skaters who may experience small injuries. However, we do not have a designated or trained first-aid professional on the froSkate team, so if the injury is severe we can assist the skater in getting professional attention by calling 911.

  • NOTE: froSkate is not legally responsible for any injuries that occur during our meetups, so please proceed with caution.

SkatePark Etiquette

It’s important for everyone to understand the unspoken etiquette of the skatepark. Here are a few things we think are important to remember:

  • Pay attention to other skaters’ lines/path

    • Typically there are specific tricks and paths a skater is working on at one time. Pay attention to those around you to make sure you aren't going to cause a crash or hog an area someone was using.

    • This goes both ways, typically people will also be looking out for you and try to not get in your way as well.

    • Everyone at the park should be aware of and take turns on certain areas as it is a shared space with skateboarders, BMXers and wheels of all kinds.

    • Don’t be afraid to introduce yourself to other skaters!

    • When you're practicing skating those who seem focused may seem intimidating, but breaking that wall is as easy as saying hello! You can make new friends easily this way and maybe even learn some new things.

  • Be mindful of beginners and children

    • This is similar to watching lines, allow beginners to take their time and be friendly! Remember the first time you skated around people? Might have been really scary! So be careful when shredding by.

  • Yell: "Board!" If your board goes flying so other skaters will know to watch out.
